한국 내 이슬람 인구가 성장하고 있다. 한국에 이슬람 인구가 성장하게 된 배경은 1990년대, 노동시장의 변화이다. 즉 3D(Difficult, Dirty and Dangerous) 현상은 인력 부족 현상으로 이어졌다. 이를 해결하기 위해 외국인 노동자들이 입국하기 시작했다. 인력 송출 국이던 우리나라가 이제 수입국이 된 것이다. 이로 인해 국내 외국 인 무슬림 인구가 성장하기 시작했다. 또한 한국 이슬람 중앙회 발표에 의하면 1955년, 208명이었던 한국인 무슬림 인구는 2009년 7 만 천명으로 대거 성장했다. 동시에 한국 사회에서 이슬람의 영향력 역시 점차 강해지는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 무엇보다 이슬람으로 개종하는 사람들 다수가 기독교인이라는 것을 주목할 필요가 있다. 한국 기독교인들은 이슬람에 대한 지식이 필요하다는 것을 반증하기 때문이다. 이미 잘 알려져 있듯이 종교개혁은 오스만 터키의 유럽 침공에 위기의식을 느꼈던 종교개혁자들에 의하여 일어났다. 따라서 종교 개혁자들의 이슬람 연구 내용을 살펴본다면 이슬람에 대한 혜안을 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 종교개혁시대에 개혁신학을 정립한 존 칼빈(John Calvin)은 그 의 저서 『기독교 강요』(Institutes)에서 이슬람에 대하여 6번 언급 했다. 또한, 그의 전 생애에 걸친 작업, 즉 신명기를 포함한 방대한 설교문과 성경주석에서도 이슬람에 대한 자신의 생각을 드러냈다. 한 걸음 더 나아가 칼빈은 무슬림에 대한 구체적인 대안을 제시하 고 있다. 따라서 존 칼빈의 견해는 오늘날 이슬람의 도전에 직면한 한국교회가 개혁주의 입장에서 이슬람에 대한 견해와 대안을 세우 는 데에도 기여할 것으로 기대한다.
Abstract
The Muslim population in Korea is growing. With the rise of the 3D job scene in the 1990s, as foreign workers entered the countries requiring such a workforce, the foreign Muslim population grew in Korea. Furthermore, the Korean Muslim population is also growing. The Muslim population in Korea, which was 208 in 1955, has grown to 71,000 in 2009 according to the announcement of the Korean Muslim Federation. It suggests that the influence of Islam in Korea is gradually getting more powerful. In particular, taking into consideration that the majority of the people who convert to Islam are Christians, it suggests that the Christians in Korea need more knowledge about Islam. It is a well-known fact that the Reformation was initiated by the Reformers who felt threatened by the Ottoman Turkish invasion of Europe. We can gain insight into Islam by examining the research conducted on Islam by the Reformers. John Calvin, who established Reformed theology during the Reformation Era, mentioned Islam in his book ‘Institutes of the Christian Religion’ on four occasions. In addition, he expressed his thoughts on Islam throughout his life through extensive sermons and annotations including the Book of Deuteronomy. Moreover, in the sense that the Korean church is presenting concrete counterplans against Muslims, Calvin expects that the Korean church, facing the challenges of Islam today, will be able to contribute to establishing opinions and counterplans on Islam as a Reformist.
