Abstract

The purpose of this study to find out various understandings about gender discrimination. They are aspects, causes and overcoming plans of gender discrimination. This study will help to go on in the way of gender equality in the sport world. Research was performed by an open questionnaire and in-depth interviews with 60 college women volleyball players. First, the aspects of gender discrimination in the sport world can be classified into three categories. The first categorie was found out that male instructors manage the female players in a sexually derogatory and sexual harassment. Second, the one-sided aspect of the communication structure from the typical background of patriarchal ideology suppress femininity. Third is aspect of privacy constraints and invasion of the day-to-day life situations from the relationship between the male coaches and female athletes. Second, the cause of gender discrimination can be classified into 3 categories. The first cause is that male sports occupies a dominant position in the structure and organizaton of sport world. This dominant situation of the female sports discriminated female sports. Second, sport world that the traditional patriarchal ideology seep in athletics, moves with a phallocentrism. Third, passive role that their heterosexual female athletes dominant patriarchal ideology in the social relations themselves. Third, Interfering factors to overcome of gender discrimination were women's biological, physical, and technical skills that is lack fundamentally compared with men. Second, male leaders have more ability in the cultural and social communication skills than female leaders and athletes. Third factor was fundamentally patriarchal ideology as dominant Norm in the sportsworld. The sportsworld is controlled by Patriarchal ideology that stands on the ground of the masculinity. Patriarchal Ideology plays as roll of obstacle to overcome gender discrimination. Fourth, The first strategy to overcome gender discrimination provide always a fair chance in the sportsworld. The second plan makes female sports player themselves efforts to improve the social, physically, emotionally and intellectually skills.
