Abstract
Rājayoga is a term that appears in the Sanskrit literature since the 12th century. All of the literature describing rājayoga is mostly haṭhayoga literature, with the exception of Yogasārasaṃgraha and Yogasiddhāntacandrikā. In both literatures, rājayoga means samādhi or seedless-samādhi(nirbījasamādhi). In the case of haṭhayoga literature, the meaning of Rājayoga is largely divided into two types. The first is Rājayoga, which is the final stage reached through Mantrayoga, Layayoga, and Haṭhayoga, in this case Rājayoga is mostly synonymous with or interchangeable with Samādhi, Asaṃprajñatasamādhi, and Nirvikalpasamādhi. The second is the Rājayoga as a means with a specific technique, which means ‘the helper of haṭhayoga’, ‘the Vedantic Rājayoga consisting of 15-aṅgas’, and ‘the combination of Retas and Rajas’. This paper analyzes the meaning of Rājayoga found in Sanskrit literature in the 12th and 18th centuries.
