Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of major selection motivation on major commitment and major satisfaction among beauty major college students and to empirically analyze the effect of major commitment on major satisfaction. The subjects were 210 college students majoring in beauty. The collected data were analyzed using frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis with SPSS 25.0. The results showed that major selection motivation consisted of two factors: intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation, while major commitment and major satisfaction each consisted of a single factor, confirming the validity and reliability of the measurement instruments. In addition, both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation showed significant positive correlations with major commitment and major satisfaction, with the strongest correlation found between major commitment and major satisfaction. Regression analysis revealed that intrinsic motivation had a significant positive effect on major commitment, whereas extrinsic motivation had no significant effect. In contrast, both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation had significant positive effects on major satisfaction, and major commitment also had a significant positive effect on major satisfaction. These findings suggest that strengthening students’ intrinsic motivation based on their interests and aptitudes, along with expanding practice-oriented curricula and student-participatory learning environments, is necessary to enhance major commitment and major satisfaction among beauty major college students.
