Abstract
This study examines how the typological characteristics of national heritage are reflected in the configuration logic of media art content by comparing the 2025 National Heritage Media Art projects at Jinjuseong Fortress and Tongyeong Samdosugun Tongjeyeong. The two cases share the same year, region, budget, and designation as Historic Sites but differ in functional legacy, a fortress versus a government office complex, enabling a most-similar-case comparison between event- and memory-concentrated heritage and function- and institution-accumulated heritage. Official outcome and planning documents were analyzed across six dimensions: resource selection, value framing, narrative, spatial routes, media and interaction, and local linkage, with levels of evidence distinguished. At Jinjuseong, heterogeneous spaces converged on the memory of the Imjin War battles and were framed through a single symbol of full bloom, producing convergent routes centered on symbolic places, affective and commemorative interaction, and a performative incorporation of intangible heritage. In the Tongyeong plan, the historical functions of barracks, workshops, and strategy halls were differentiated into distinct spatial scenes, producing dispersed nodes by government precinct, function-reenacting interaction, and a genealogical linkage between the twelve workshops and living craft heritage. These findings suggest that heritage type tends to shape the starting point and center of gravity of content planning, and that the planning and evaluation of heritage media art should begin with how the meanings of the source heritage have accumulated. Given the asymmetry of source materials and differences in project continuity and organizers, the comparison is limited to content configuration logic rather than performance.
