Abstract
Objective: Client-centered dental hygiene care requires a systematic approach to diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation that integrates client assessment data with dental hygiene expertise. Dental hygiene outcomes are crucial for identifying clients' oral health problems and assessing their responses to the dental hygiene process of care. This study aimed to develop dental hygiene outcome labels and indicators to evaluate oral health status, behaviors, and perceptions. Methods: Before developing the outcomes and indicators, we defined key terms and established principles to guide the creation of outcome labels. Relevant literature was selected for content analysis, and descriptive statements reflecting clients’ oral health status, behaviors, and perceptions were collected through an iterative review process. Results: A total of 53 dental hygiene outcome labels and 354 corresponding outcome indicators were developed. Conclusions: This study developed a set of dental hygiene outcome labels and indicators that can be used to evaluate clients’ oral health status, behaviors, and perceptions in response to dental hygiene care.
