해방 직후《소학생》을 통해 동화 창작활동을 펴온 김요섭은 초기에는 전쟁의 비극적 현실에 대한 강한 주제 의식을 표출했다. 그러면서도 그는 비극적인 현실을 직접 제시하지 않고 환상기법과 서정 구조를 통해 에둘러 표현하며 전쟁의 아픈 상처를 깊이 있게 인지시켜 주고자 했다. 그것은 해방 직후부터 6.25 전쟁의 참상을 겪은 1940~50년대 시대상을 그린『깊은밤 별들이 울리는 종』(1959)에 잘 드러나 있다. 본고는 그 중「달 뜰 무렵」의 구조적 특성을 분석하여 그 구조에 담긴 동화적 의미를 고찰한 것이다.「달 뜰 무렵」은 서정적 구조의 하나인 액자 형식으로 전쟁의 아픔을 제시한 동화로 겉 이야기와 두 개의 안 이야기로 구성된 특수한 ‘연작적 액자’의 구조적 특성을 지닌 작품이기 때문이다. 따라서 본고는 그 액자 동화가 전쟁의 참혹한 현실을 어떻게 표현하였는지 살펴보면서 그 동화 구조의 미학적 의미를 밝혀보고자 한 것이다.
Abstract
Immediately after the liberation, Kim Yo-seop, who created fairy tales through "Elementary Student," in the early days expressed an acute sense of theme about the tragic reality of war. On the other hand, he did not directly present the tragic reality but described it an indirect way through fantasy techniques and lyric structures, trying to deeply recognize the painful wounds of the war. Shortly after the liberation, this was neatly illustrated in "The Bell of the Stars Ringing in the Deep Night" (1959) which depicts the era of the 1940s, as well as the 1950s after the bloody Korean War. This paper analyzes the structural characteristics of "When the Moon is About to Rise", exploring the fairy tale meaning contained in the structure. "When the Moon is About to Rise" is a fairy tale that presents the pain of war in a frame format, one of the lyrical structures comprising an outside story and two inside stories characterized by the structural features of a special 'continuous frame'. Therefore, this paper specifically aims to reveal the aesthetic meaning of the fairy tale structure while examining how the framed fairy tale expresses the harsh reality of war.
