우리나라의 초등학교 쉬는 시간은 초등학생의 학교생활의 상당부분을 차지함에도 불구하고, 교육과정 연구 분야에서 관심있게 다루어지지 못했다. 이에 이 논문은 초등학교 쉬는 시간의 잠재적 교육과정에 대해 질적 접근을 도모해 보고자 한다. 이를 위해 이 연구는 C 교육대학교 학생들의 쉬는 시간에 대한 회고록을 수집하였으며, 이를 질적으로 분석하였다. 이 연구의 결과로서 초등학교 학생들은 통제된 공간 속의 틈 속에서 제한된 자유를 경험한다는 점, 쉬는 시간을 통해 다양한 교류를 경험한다는 점, 초등학교 학생들이 자신들의 필요에 따라 스스로를 자율적으로 통제한다는 점, 쉬는 시간 동안 양가적인 경험을 통해 다양한 학습경험을 하고 있다는 점 등을 논의하였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 초등학교 쉬는 시간에 대한 새로운 시각을 제공하여, 교육과정 연구 및 교육 정책의 제안에 시사점을 줄 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Although elementary school recess in Korea occupies a significant portion of elementary school students’ school life, it has not been dealt with with interest in the field of curriculum research. Therefore, this paper aims to take a qualitative approach to the potential curriculum of elementary school recess. To this end, this study collected memoirs of students at C University of Education about their recess and analyzed them qualitatively. As a result of this study, it was discussed that elementary school students experience limited freedom in the gaps of controlled spaces, experience various interactions during recess, autonomously control themselves according to their needs, and have diverse learning experiences through ambivalent experiences during recess. These research results will provide a new perspective on elementary school recess, and can provide implications for curriculum research and educational policy proposals.
