라틴 세계의 첫 신학자였던 테르툴리아누스(약 160-220)는 그리스도인들이 구체적인 삶에서 진리를 실천할 것을 촉구했다. 그는 “처녀들의 베일에 대하여”에서 그리스도교 진리의 권위를 통해 카르타고 공동체에서 발생한 주요 문제들을 해결하려고 시도했다. 그가 제안한 권위는 성경, 본성, 가르침의 삼중적 방식이다. 그에게 성경은 진리를 획득하는 권위이다. 성경의 진리는 인간과 그의 삶에 결부되어 있기에 구체적이다. 신앙은 진리의 문제이므로, 성경과 본성과 가르침은 전적으로 하나님으로부터 온다고 믿었다. 글로벌 시대의 이주문화는 새로운 소통 방식을 필요로 한다. 이러한 상황에서 우리는 어떻게 그리스도교 진리를 선포하고 유지할 수 있을까? 테르툴리아누스의 소작품을 통해 진리를 추구하고 주장하는 그의 방식을 소개하고자 한다.
Abstract
Tertullian(ca. 160-220), the first theologian in the Latin world, urged Christian truths to be practiced in concrete life. In his work “On the Veiling of Virgins”(De virginibus velandis), Tertullian attempted to solve the topical problems that occurred in the Carthaginian community through Christian Authority. The authority proposed is a triple method of ‘scriptura, natura, and disciplina’. For him, the Bible is the authority to acquire truths. The truths of the Bible is practical because it is connected to humans and their lives. Because faith is a matter of truth, He believed that ‘scriptura, natura, and disciplina’ came from God. Migrant culture in the global era needs a new way of communication. Then how can we proclaim and maintain the Christian truths in this context? Through Tertullian’s opusculum, this paper would like to present his way of pursuing and arguing for truth.
