초록
訓民正音에 대한 音韻論的 완성도와 관련하여 최근 주로 국외의 한글 연구자들을 중심으로 이 문자를 ‘資質文字’로 자리매김하려는 움직임이 있어 왔다. 훈민정음을 자질문자로 자리매김하려는 시도는 훈민정음의 위대성을 보다 드높이는 일이기도 하다. 하지만 訓民正音 制字 과정에는 많은 非音韻論的 性格이 담겨 있다. 이런 점을 외면하고 단지 음운론적 층위에서 훈민정음을 자질문자로 규정하는 것은 오히려 훈민정음의 本質을 밝히는 데 장애 요소가 될 우려가 있는 것이다. 훈민정음에 대한 창제자의 설명은, 간혹 우리가 추상적이고 모호하게 느끼는 부분이 있을지라도 매우 정연한 것이다. 이에 대한 理解는 절대로 단순히 음운론적 차원에서만 얻어질 수 있는 것은 아닌 것으로 보인다. 이 글은 이런 점을 명확히 함으로써 앞으로의 훈민정음의 制字 原理를 새로 분석하기 위한 초석으로 삼고자 한 것이다.
Abstract
In relation to the phonological completeness of Hunminjeongeum, a tendency that scholars regard Hunminjeongeum as featural script has arised recently especially outside the country. Ignoring the non- phonological properties in Hunminjeongeum's system, the theory of featural script only focuses on its phonological properties. In order to comprehend the nature of Hunminjeongeum completely, we should pay close attention to its non-phonological properties. This paper aims at revealing the problem of theory of featural script, so as to analysis the principle of Hunminjeongeum in a new way.
