끌라스 스킬더는 카이퍼(Kuyper)와 바빙크(Bavinck)를 이어 화란개혁교회와 신학에 여러 가지로 지대한 공헌을 한 신학자이다. 그는 심원하고, 독창적이 고, 현실적합한 많은 저술들을 출간했고, 목회자와 신학교 교수로서 개혁교 회의 갱신을 도모했던 교회의 신학자이기도 하다. 후기에 그는 한 교단과 한 신학교의 설립자가 되기도 한다. 이렇게 중요한 신학자임에도 불구하고 그 의 저술과 생애에 대한 논구 작업이 그동안 희소했다. 이런 상황에서 스킬더 에 대한 연구와 논의가 점증되기를 소망하면서, 본고를 통해 스킬더의 공적 인이력과저술에대한개관작업을시도해보았다. 그의공적인이력을개 관하는 일만 해도 논문 한 편으로 불가능하기 때문에, 본고에서는 그의 초기 성장과정과 목회기간에 집중해서 천착해 보았다. 2절에서는 스킬더의 출생과 성장 과정에 대해서 논구해 보았다. 가난한 환경에서 태어나 자란 스킬더는 어렵게 김나지움에 들어가게 되었으나 6년 간 고전어들, 현대어들, 화란사 등에 집중적을 면학정진했다. 이러한 학업 과 정은 이어지는 깜쁜신학교에서의 신학수업을 위해서 크게 유익하였다. 김나 지움을 졸업한 후에 깜쁜신학교에 진학하여 4년 반의 목사 훈련 과정을 우 수하게 이수하였다. 신학뿐만 아니라 철학과 문학에 대한 방대한 독서를 하였으며, 학생회 활동에도 열정을 다했다. 3절에서는 스킬더의 개혁교회 목회자로서의 사역 기간을 개관해 보았다. 1914년 암트-폴른호브 소재 개혁교회 목사로 사역을 시작한 스킬더는 로 테르담-델프스하브에 이르기까지 총 6개 교회를 연속해서 19년 동안 목회를 했다. 스킬더의 목회 사역기를 특징짓는 것은 그가 구속사적 설교에 집중 했 다고하는것이다. 또한이기간동안각종교회신문들에글들을기고하거 나 주간지 「개혁」지의 편집을 맡으므로 화란개혁교회 내에 영향력있는 인사 가 되어갔다. 그리고 마지막 목회지에서는 독일 에얼랑엔대학교에서 박사과 정 공부를 진행하여 철학 박사학위를 받기에 이른다. 그리고 1933년 총회에 서 그는 깜쁜신학교 교수로 임명을 받는다. 여기까지가 그의 초기 생애 혹은 제1시기에 속한다.
Abstract
Klaas Schilder (1890-1952) was a theologian who made various contributions to the Dutch Reformed Church and theology after Kuyper and Bavink. He had published many works characterized by profundity, originality and relevance. He was a pastor as well as a seminary professor – the theologian of the Church – who aimed at the renovation of Dutch Reformed Churches. In the latter days, he became the founder of a new denomination and a Theological Seminary. Despite his significance as a theologian, his works and life have been rarely examined academically in Korea. In this regard, I tried to overview his public career and writings in this paper, hoping that the research and discussions on Schilder will increase. Since it is impossible to examine entirety of his life and works in a brief paper, I focused on his early development and his pastoral period in this paper. In section two, I examined on the birth and early development of Schilder. Although Schilder grew from a poor family and hardly advanced to Gymnasium, he concentrated to study on classical languages, modern languages, and Dutch language for six years. This course of study was very beneficial for the subsequent studies in Theological Seminary. After graduating from Gymnasium, he went to the Theological School in Kampen where he prosecuted the training course for candidates of would-be Reformed pastors about four and a half years. While attending seminary, he did extensive reading on philosophy and literature as well as theology. There, he was passionate to participate in the activities of the student clubs as well In section three, I examined the period of Schilder’s ministry as a pastor in Reformed Churches. In 1914, Schilder began his first pastoral work in the Amt-Vollenhove and to his last ministerial place at Rotterdam- Delfshaven had he ministered in the six churches for 19 years. During his pastoral ministry, Schilder was known for his focus on redemptive preaching. On the other hand, he also became an influential opinion leader in his denomination by contributing so many articles to various church newspapers or editing the weekly magazine De Reformatie. At his last pastoral place, he had prosecuted his doctoral coursework in Erlangen University and finally he received Ph. D. degree in philosophy. In the 1933 General Assembly, he was appointed as a professor of his alma mater. So far, I examined the early development of Schilder.
