Abstract

T his study analyzed Kang So-cheon's fairy tales as the concept of same sex sociality and explored how emotional bonds between men combine with patriarchal ideology to reproduce misogyny and gender power structures. Children's literature is an educational space that provides readers with a framework for interpreting the world beyond the medium that conveys emotions. Creators and educators should reflect on whose perspective the emotional structure and value system delivered by children's literature are based. This critical mind is an important starting point for analyzing how male ties and same-sex sociality in Kang So-cheon fairy tales reproduce gender power structures. As a result of the study, in Kang So-cheon's fairy tales, the bond between men acts as a way to justify the male-centered order and functions as an important mechanism to strengthen the gender hierarchy by excluding or marginalizing female characters. This phenomenon is deeply related to the gender perception shared throughout children's literature at the time, and plays a role in reproducing the asymmetry of narrative power according to gender. In addition, children learn social order and the gaze of others through literature, male children form self-identity through relationships with men of their age, and women function as tools for forming male subjects. For this reason, Kang's fairy tales have a narrative limitation that excludes female children while emphasizing the rights and dignity of children. Kang's fairy tales are of great significance in that children's literature goes beyond just conveying an emotional story and is an important educational field for forming social values and perceptions of others. Fairy tales internalize children's gender hierarchy and exclusion mechanisms, and children's literature creators need to critically reflect on the story structure and message, and reset the creative direction so that children can grow up in a narrative of equal and healthy solidarity. Based on this analysis, subsequent studies will be able to present more inclusive and balanced children's literature through the possibility of children's literature beyond the gender hierarchy and the exploration of creative techniques that reinforce women's independent roles.
