본 연구는 씨름의 세계화를 위해 기존의 스포츠 세계화 이론의 주요 주장을 검토했다. 초창기 스포츠 세계화에 대한 이론적 접근은 서구 중심의 근대화와 제국주의를 토대로 서구 근대스포츠가 비서구에 이식되어 문화적 동 질화를 경험하는 과정으로 해석되었다. 글로컬리제이션은 단선적이고 일방적인 기존 스포츠 세계화 해석의 한계 를 극복하고, 지역의 문화적 맥락 속에서 지구와 지역의 창조적인 상호작용을 이해할 수 있는 대안적인 개념적 플랫폼으로 등장했다. 하지만 기존 스포츠 세계화 담론은 비 서구지역에서 출발한 세계화 현상에 대한 이론적 근거를 제공하지 못했다. 그 결과 남쪽 이론과 스포츠 탈구축론 같은 대안적 이론적 틀이 등장하며 세계 각 지역 의 문화적 경험과 확산의 수평적인 해석을 위한 기반이 마련되고 있다는 것을 파악할 수 있었다. 이에 본 고에서 는 씨름의 세계화를 위한 이론적 토대를 마련하기 위해서 비서구 지역에서 세계화를 경험한 신체 문화들에 대한 실증적인 고찰을 통해 스포츠 세계화의 다각적이고 균형 있는 해석과 이론 정립의 구축을 제언한다.
Abstract
This study reviewed the main arguments of the existing sports globalization theory for the globalization of Ssireum. The theoretical approach to sports globalization in the early days was interpreted as the process of experiencing cultural homogenization by implanting western modern sports into non-Western countries based on Western-centered modernization and imperialism. Glocalization has emerged as an alternative conceptual platform that overcomes the limitations of the unilinear and one-sided interpretation of the existing sports globalization and understands the creative interaction between the earth and the region in the cultural context of the region. However, the existing discourse on globalization of sports did not provide a theoretical basis for the phenomenon of globalization originating from non-Western regions. As a result, alternative theoretical frameworks such as southern theory and sports deconstruction theory emerge, laying the foundation for a horizontal interpretation of cultural experiences and diffusions in each region of the world. Therefore, in order to lay the theoretical foundation for the globalization of Ssireum, this study proposes a multilateral and balanced interpretation of sports globalization and the establishment of theories through empirical considerations of body cultures that have experienced globalization in non-Western regions.
