정신장애인의 음악창조 경험 연구: 작곡전공자를 중심으로

초록

본 연구는 정신장애인이 음악을 만드는 과정에서 경험하는 측면을 밝히고자 작곡을 전공한 정신장애인 4명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 진행하여 자료를 수집했다. 분석한 결과, 정신장애인 작곡전공자의 음악창조 경험의미는 ‘자기에 대한 창조적 재인식’, ‘있는 모습 그대로’, ‘살기 위한 필수 조건과 역량 강화’ 등 3가지 주제로 나타났다. 7가지 하위범주로는‘창조적 순간을 알아차림’, ‘나에 대해 이해함’, ‘삐딱한 시선을 받음’, ‘작곡가로 인정받고 싶음’, ‘드러냄과 숨김’, ‘경제적인 어려움’, ‘계속 배워야 함’으로 드러났다. 본 연구 결과를 토대로, 정신장애인 작곡전공자의 창조적 활동에서 사회적으로 필요한 실천적 함의는 첫째, 정신장애와 창조성에 관한 연구는 당사자의 생생한 경험을 탐구하는 방향의 연구로 전환되어야 한다. 둘째, 정신장애인들의 정체성에 관련한 당사자의 임파워먼트가 필요하다. 셋째, 세상과 소통의 장이 될 수 있는 실천적 창작 지원 정책이 필요하다. 넷째,정신장애인들의 창조적 예술성을 인정하는 사회적 인식이 필요하다. 본 연구는 작곡 전공 당사자의 경험을 살펴봄으로써 그동안 정신장애인의 창조적 활동에 대한 오해와 그로 인한 차별적 시선의 반성과 함께 장애 예술 분야 중 정신장애인의 창조적 활동에 관한 실천적 정책적 함의를 제시하는 것에 의의가 있다.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the experiences of individuals with mental disabilities in the process of music creation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with four individuals with mental disabilities who majored in composition. The analysis revealed three primary themes regarding the significance of their music creation experiences: 'Creative re-recognition of the self,' 'As they are,' and 'Essential conditions for living and empowerment.' Seven subcategories were identified: 'Recognizing creative moments,' 'Understanding oneself,' 'Receiving skewed perceptions,' 'Desiring recognition as a composer,' 'Revealing and concealing,' 'Economic challenges,' and 'Continuous learning.' Based on the findings of this study, several practical implications are necessary for the social integration of the creative activities of composers with mental disabilities. Firstly, research on mental disabilities and creativity should focus on the vivid experiences of the individuals involved. Secondly, empowerment related to the identity of individuals with mental disabilities is needed. Thirdly, practical creative support policies that can serve as a bridge for communication with the world are required. Fourthly, societal recognition of the creative artistry of individuals with mental disabilities is essential. This study is significant as it examines the experiences of composition majors with mental disabilities, reflects on the misunderstandings and resultant discriminatory views of their creative activities, and presents practical and policy implications for fostering the creative activities of individuals with mental disabilities within the field of disability arts.
