2020년 육군 6·25전쟁기록의 유형과 가치 -육군 6·25전쟁기록의 국가등록문화재 지정과 관련하여-

Abstract

Marking the 70th anniversary of the Korean War this year(2020), the Army Archives Management Group designated the “The Korean War Records” as a national registered cultural asset with the Cultural Heritage Administration, converting the disclosure status to a public disclosure, and delivering 114 copies of the original digitized scanned files and electronic books to be used by anyone at the National Library of Korea and the National Assembly Library. The registration of the “The Korean War Records” as a national registered cultural asset is one of the first cases of designation of modern and contemporary records along with a letter from Dr. Seok-ju Na. As the primary source of historical data, it was not disclosed to the public as it was a secret record and special handling data before disclosure. It was used as historical research materials such as war history and military history only inside the military, and external researchers did not have easy access to the original text. So far, there have been numerous publications, research papers, war journals and oral records related to the Korean War. In particular, if works related to the history of war or military history published by the military itself, were written referring to existing erroneous materials or based on oral materials, we cannot help but be concerned about the distortion of memory. This is why the cross -research is required. For this cross-research, the primary historical record will be needed, where “The Korean War Records” can play such role. According to a survey conducted by The 70th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee, the majority of the people had a negative perception, and it was necessary to develop educational content to raise awareness, and improve such views. “The Korean War Records” can be used for the development of such content and as a large volume of original documents it can be utilized in records exhibitions. It can also be used to excavate unknown soldiers and identify the geographical names and languages of the time. The Korean War record is a primary historical record produced by the Korean Army with a total of 15 types, 7,521 cases, and approximately 80,000 pages. It is a record of the documentary value of the death in battle and patriotism, and is expected to limitlessly expand its scope of use in the future.
