Abstract

The climate crisis today is not merely an environmental issue but a comprehensive threat to human survival, social justice, faith, and the communal life of the church. Despite this, the Korean church has largely remained silent or indifferent, lacking adequate theological reflection or practical response. This study critically analyzes this reality and explores how the Korean church can respond to the climate crisis through the lens of public theology. It examines the theological implications of the climate crisis, diagnoses the Korean church’s indifference based on public theological discourse, and proposes a transformative framework of faith-based practice and public responsibility. The article argues that public theology offers a critical and constructive paradigm for enhancing the Korean church’s theological engagement and public participation in the era of climate emergency.
