This research aims to clarify the past of Song Wan-sik which has been little known to an academic circles, and investigates writings by Song and publications by Dongyang Daehakdang. Song Wan-sik who was a writer in the 1920s individually published a neologism dictionary and operated his publishing company as well. After having written books in diverse fields with the help of Gang Ui-young’s Yeongchang Seogwan, in 1927 Song Wan-sik published Baekgwa Sinsajeon (New Encyclopedia) and began his publication work for a decade by acquiring Dongyang Daehakdang. This study sheds light on unique aspects of Song Wan-sik as a writer and lexicographer. In addition, this study examines the method of one-person editor and how the publisher lived and the implication of cultural practice at Dongyang Daehakdang.
