Abstract
This study compares the 2026 Chinese remake Loving Strangers (秋雪漫过的冬天) with the 2018 tvN drama My Mister to examine how changes in the arrangement of events and relationships enable a rereading of the original’s narrative of salvation. The remake preserves the original’s major narrative structure, including corporate power struggles, the female protagonist’s wiretapping, the formal evaluation of the male protagonist, his promotion, and eventual independence, while more clearly separating Jiang Jiaqi’s professional judgment, social recognition, and surrounding relationships. Communal functions concentrated in the original are distributed across different relationships and spaces in the remake. Reflected back onto the original, these changes reveal how family, friends, Jung-hee’s bar, and the early-morning soccer club are tightly integrated within Hugye-dong as a shared sphere of everyday life. Lee Ji-an’s wiretapping reveals Park Dong-hoon’s present, while Hugye-dong’s long-standing relationships preserve the memory of his past; together, these two temporal dimensions establish moral trust in him. This study terms such reverse rereading the remake’s “X-ray effect.” It defines “moral heroization” not as making Park a flawless hero, but as the repeated confirmation and narrative approval of the goodness and sincerity he already possesses. Because this moral recognition develops into social recovery through promotion and independence, Park’s upward movement is understood less as conventional success than as a process of salvation. The final “comfort” signifies a form of salvation achieved not by escaping reality, but by recovering one’s place within it.
