지역학습에서 내용-활동의 표준 설정: 지리산 동부 산지를 사례로

다문화사회에서는 시민에게 합리성과 정의, 참여와 배려, 관용과 연대 등 다양한 자질이 요구되고 있다. 이러한 다중시민적 자질을 기르기 위해서는 미국 사회과 패러다임의 변화를 반영한 기존의 사회과 지역화 학습의 전통을 다음과 같이 넘어설 것을 제안한다. 지역학습에서 내용-활동의 표준은 첫째, 지리적 사고와 공간 분석- 지리적 상상력 기르기, 둘째 이야기 전달과 장소 해석- 지역주민과 의사소통하기, 셋째 정치생태적 사고와 환경 계획- 바람직한 지역 만들기 과정으로 설정할 수 있다. 왜냐하면, 현실적인 지역은 잠재적인 공간, 장소, 환경 수준으로 구분하여, 공간학습에서 지리적 상상력을, 장소학습에서 역사적 상상력을 기르고, 환경학습에서 참여와 연대 의식을 키울 수 있기 때문이다. 이러한 지역학습의 실천으로 학습자는 사회과 학력(사회인식력, 사회판단력, 사회과 기능) 목표에 명확하게 도달할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Citizenship in a multicultural society plays a key role in the development of rationality and justice, participation and care, tolerance and solidarity. A shift outward the regionalization tradition embodied in the American social studies paradigm is necessary to foster multicultural citizenship. The standard of content-activity in regional instruction can be established as follows; Firstly, geographical thinking and spatial analysis is required to develop the geographical imagination. Secondly, narrative and place interpretation will enable students to communicate with the local inhabitants. Thirdly, political ecology thinking and environmental planning is required to make desirable society. Because the real region can be approached in the level of virtual space, place and environment, students?geographical imagination can be improved by the learning of space. Also, students?historical imagination, their willingness to participate and their sense of solidarity can be developed through the learning of place and environment. Students can clearly achieve desired outcomes in social studies in terms of knowledge, judgement and skills through teachers?practicing new regional instruction.
