미디어 리터러시 활동이 학습자의 비판적 사고력에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 -남녀 학생의 변화 양상을 중심으로-

본 연구는 미디어에 대한 중요성이 차츰 더해져 가고 있는 최근의 교육현실 속에서 미디어 리터러시 교육의 주요 목적 중 하나인 학생들의 비판적 사고력 신장과에 초점을 두고 학생들의 변화 과정을 살펴보고자 하였다. 미디어 리터러시 활동이 초등학교 학생들의 비판적 사고력에 어떠한 영향을 미치며 각각의 하위 영역에 있어서 변화되는 결과를 분석해 보았다. 이를 위해 KEDI에서 만든 비판적 사고기능과 사고성향의 검사지를 바탕으로 초등학생들을 위한 비판적 사고력을 측정할 수 있는 검사지를 개발하였다. 12주간 20차시의 미디어 리터러시 활동의 결과 실험집단의 남녀 양쪽 모두 비판적 사고기능과 사고성향에 있어서 유의미한 변화가 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 중 남학생의 경우 여학생에 비해 비판적 사고기능에 대한 변화가 전체적으로 더 많이 나타났으며 비판적 사고기능의 각 영역에 있어서도 여학생에 비해 남학생의 변화가 뚜렷이 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 또한 비판적 사고성향에 있어서는 여학생의 변화가 남학생의 변화보다 더 크게 일어남을 알 수 있었는데 각 영역별 내용에 있어서도 여학생의 변화가 더 많이 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 교육현장에서 실시될 수 있는 미디어 리터러시 활동과 비판적 사고력 교육에 대한 몇 가지 제언을 하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of media literacy activities on the changes of the critical thinking faculty of elementary school boys and girls and the changes of the two groups in each domain of critical thinking faculty. And it's also meant to look for gender gaps in the aspects of the changes between elementary school boys and girls. The importance of media is increasingly stressed in today's educational circumstances, and this study focused on the improvement of critical thinking faculty, which is one of the objects of media literacy education. A critical thinking faculty inventory for elementary school students was developed based on the KEDI's critical thinking function and critical thinking disposition inventories. When a pretest was conducted, there were no differences between the elementary school boys and girls who were investigated in either critical thinking function or critical thinking disposition. After the students engaged in media literacy activities in 20 sessions during a 12-week period of time, however, both of the boys and girls underwent significant changes in critical thinking function and critical thinking disposition. Specifically, there were more changes in the critical thinking function of the boys than of the girls overall, and the former underwent more marked changes than the latter in each factor of critical thinking function. In terms of critical thinking disposition, there were greater changes in the girls than in the boys, and the former underwent greater changes in each factor of it as well. Given the findings of the study, there are some suggestions on media literacy education and critical thinking faculty education.
