This study analyzes the irregularities observed in the paradigms of Korean predicate conjugations through Edit Distance, which is a way of quantifying how dissimilar two word strings are from each other by counting the minimum number of operations required to transform one string into the other. The researcher measured the degree of irregularity observed in the 14 Korean predicate conjugation paradigms by applying a single indicator of Edit Distance instead of a dichotomous classification system of irregular and regular conjugation. Through the scale of Edit Distance, the researcher measured the irregularities of word-specific paradigms, which were difficult to explain through dichotomous classifications. The quantitatively measured irregularities of Korean predicate conjugation paradigms showed that even paradigms that were classified as a regular conjugation by precedent research had strong irregularities depending on phonological conditions.
