군 병사들의 자살관념과 극복에 관한 주제분석 연구

초록

본 연구는 군 병사들의 자살관념과 극복에 관한 경험을 파악하기 위해 시도되었다. 이를 위해 군복무 중 자살관념이나 자살충동을 지속해서 느꼈으나, 그를 극복하고 군 생활에 적응한 현역 군병사 138명을 개별 면담하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구진은 Braun & Clarke(2006)가 제시한 주제분석방법으로 병사들의 자살관념의 구체적 내용과 함께 극복에 관한 내용을 분석했다. 연구에서는 31개의 공통주제, 11개의 주제를 도출하였고, 이를 다시 자살관념 내용과 자살 보호요인 범주에 재배열하였다. 자살관념 내용 주제로는 ‘전쟁소모품 신드롬’, ‘개인적 일상의 실종’, ‘병영 탈주 심리’, ‘심리적자본의 훼손’, ‘왜곡된 저항수단’이 나타났다. 자살 보호요인 주제로는 ‘현실의 주체적 재구성’, ‘지지시스템 활용’, ‘수용성의 증가’, ‘고립감 극복’, ‘이타적 책임감’, ‘자기 실존의 수행’이 나타났다. 연구진은 연구결과에 근거하여 군 병사들의 자살예방에 관한 논의를 했고 군에서 활용할 수 있는 구체적제언을 했다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of military soldiers' suicidal idea and overcoming process. To this end, the data was collected by individual interviews with 138 active military soldiers who overcame the continual suicidal idea or impulse during military service and adapted to military life. We analyzed military soldiers' suicidal idea and overcoming process based on Braun & Clarke(2006)'s thematic analysis method. The study revealed 31 common themes and 11 themes, which were categorized into suicidal idea and suicide protective factors. The themes of suicidal idea included 'war expendable syndrome', 'disappearance of personal daily life', 'desire to escape from military', 'damage on psychological capital', and 'distorted means of resistance'. The themes of suicide protective factors included 'self-restoration of reality', 'utilization of support system', 'increasing in receptivity', 'overcoming a sense of isolation', 'altruistic responsibility', and 'practice of self-existence'. Based on the results, this study discussed and made specific suggestions to prevent suicide in the military.
