자살 위험 병사들의 심리특성 연구

본 연구의 목적은 군대에서 고 위험 군에 속하는 병사들(115명)을 대상으로 (1) 자살생각과 자살시도 경험이 있는 병사들이 그렇지 않은 병사들에 비해 여러 자살 관련 변인들의 점수에서 유의한 차이가 있는지를 조사하고, (2) 군의 관심병사 분류등급(A, B, C급)으로 분류했을 때 각 집단의 자살위험정도를 조사하여 현 분류 체계의 타당성을 확인하며, (3) 자살행동과 관련이 높은 변인들이 자살시도 집단을 판별․예측하는 정도를 알아보는 것이었다. 이를 위해 군 스트레스, 우울, 절망, 자존감, 사회적 지지, 대처양식 등으로 구성된 설문지를 사용하여 병사들의 심리적 특성을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 고 위험 병사 중, 실제로 자살을 생각하거나 시도한 집단이 그렇지 않은 집단에 비해 스트레스 수준, 우울과 절망감이 높았으며, 자존감과 지각된 사회적 지지 수준이 낮았고, 부적응적 대처를 더 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 위험등급 집단간 자살위험성 평가에 있어 A급 집단 이외 B급과 C급 집단에서도 자살생각이나 시도 경험이 있는 병사들이 나타났는데, 이는 현 분류 체계의 보완이 필요함을 시사한다. 셋째, 자살시도병사(24명), 시도하지 않은 병사(91명)를 2개 집단으로 분류하여 자살위험군의 판별요인을 파악하기 위해 판별분석을 실시한 결과, 군 스트레스, 우울, 절망, 자존감, 문제중심 대처양식 등으로 구성된 판별함수 값이 자살시도 집단과 미시도 집단을 구분해주는 전체 판별적중률이 77.4%로 나타났다. 끝으로 본 연구의 의의 및 후속연구를 위한 제안점을 논의하였다.
Abstract
The main attempts taken in this study are as followed, subjected to high-risk suicidal soldiers (115 participants): (1) to assess the risk of suicide and seek its relationship with the suicidal variables identified in previous studies; (2) to verify the validity of the existing classification system through identifying the suicide risk of each group given that the participants are classified into groups of A, B, and C; (3) to examine the extent to which variables highly related to suicide are able to discriminantly predict the high-risk groups. Accordingly, the psychological characteristics of the soldiers were analyzed employing the survey whose construct is based on stress in the army, depression, hopelessness, self-esteem, social support, and problem-solving focused coping style. The three major findings are conveyed in the study. First, the risk-group who have considered or attempted suicide was higher on stress, depression and hopelessness levels and lower on self-esteem and social support levels compared to the non-risk group. Second, within the three risk-groups, not only group A, but also B and C groups were found to have soldiers who have considered or attempted suicide, which implicates the gravity of the need to supplement the existing classification system. Third, in a discriminant analysis conducted to comprehend the discriminant factor of suicide risk through the division of soldiers into the suicide attempted group and non-attempted group, discriminant function consisting of stress, depression, hopelessness, self-esteem, and problem-solving focused coping style, was found to have 77.4% of discriminant probability in differentiating between risk and non-risk groups. Lastly, the significance of the study and the future directions are suggested.
