Abstract
Companies having weak buying power may increase bargaining power and decrease transaction costs through group buying. Thus, group buying has been considered as an important purchasing method for companies. From both buyers’ and sellers’ perspectives, gains from group buying can be maximized when the aggregated demand is maximized. In this paper, the incentives to increase or decrease demand in group buying are analyzed based on the game theoretic approach. According to the analysis, the group order quantity at Nash equilibrium may be less than the sum of individual order quantities given the same price curve. In addition, I show that the equilibrium order quantity is not Pareto efficient.
