이미 주어진 조건에 의해 만들어진 ‘자연의 공동체’와는 달리 글로벌리즘의 ‘선택적 공동체’에서 사람들은 자유롭고 평등한 성원으로서 살아가려고 하고 있다. 소위 ‘무위의 공동체’에서 사람들은 자기의 삶을 스스로 선택하고 확인함으로써 공동체의 일원으로서 공공성과 정치성을 획득해가고 있다. 본고에서는 이 ‘무위의 공동체’에서 개개인이 사회적 협력의 공정한 조건을 규정하는 원리와 사회적 불평등에서 서로 관용할 수 있는 정치적 합의는 무엇인가에 대하여 롤즈의 정치이론을 가지고 설명하고자 한다. 글로벌화된 오늘날 그 어느 사회에 이 문제에 자유로울 수 없기 때문에 롤즈의 이론이 무위의 공동체에서 정의의 원칙을 도출하고 정당화하는데 필요한 이념과 방법론을 제시하고 있는가를 서술하고자 한다.
Abstract
Unlike in the “national community” which is established preconditionally, the constituents of the “selective community” of globalism are trying to live as free and equal members. As members of the so-called “community of non-action” or of “non-doing” they come to acquire social equity and “politicalness” by freely choosing and affirming their own lives. This article uses John Rawls’ political theory to describe the principles by which individuals can determine the conditions of their social cooperation and the political compromises through which they can tolerate social inequalities. Because no society in today’s globalized world can be free from this problem, this article is intended to describe whether Rawls’ theory can offer a methodology to deduce and justify the principles of justice necessary for the community of non-action or non-doing.
