러시아 정체성 형성과 ‘유럽’의 개념: 18세기 후반의 경우

Thesedays a search for the identity and role of Russia has emerged as Eurasianism and Neo-Eurasianism focusing on the geographical feature. However, differently from the issue of identity in the thesedays' Eurasianism toward Europe and Asia, the issue of whether Russia should belong to Europe or not was at first raised in 18th century. The then intellectuals and even the Catherine the Second participated in the search for the identity of Russia having Europe as the Other. A problem was that the relationship between Russia and Europe had not been one-sided. Europe could also achieve her identity as a unity in the relations with Northern Europe, Islam and Byzantium. Thus Fonvizin could give a little contradictory argument that real happiness can be not in foreign countries but in Russia while the European Enlightenment can make Russia real Russia. This article aims to find how the identity of Russia has been formed, on the basis of the premise that a search for the identity of Russia cannot help being endlessly raised.
