초록

This study aimed to identify the key challenges and technology needs of Korea’s shrimp aquaculture industry based on a survey conducted with 55 shrimp farm operators across the country. The survey findings indicate that the industry is structurally characterized by an aging workforce, a high proportion of earthen pond systems, and low application of waterproof liners-factors that contribute to environ- mental vulnerability and threaten long-term sustainability. The primary operational challenges identi- fied were disease outbreaks such as acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) and Enterocyto- zoon hepatopenaei (EHP), as well as coastal water pollution, both of which have a significant adverse impact on farm productivity. Respondents emphasized the importance of water quality management as the most critical strategy for improving farm performance. However, limited awareness of bio- security practices was noted, despite the increasing detection of shrimp pathogens in coastal waters. To address these issues, the study highlights the need for site-level disease prevention technologies, particularly real-time automated disinfectant injection systems and environmentally friendly plasma water treatment devices. Furthermore, regional-scale water management systems, governmental support for disinfection infrastructure, and mobile disinfection services are recommended to mitigate disease risks and enhance sustainability. These findings offer critical insights to guide future technological advancements and policy support.
