초록

This study aims to comprehensively evaluate 6,800 SCIE papers related to the East Sea (Sea of Japan), published between 1934 and 2023, through a bibliometric analysis, assessing countries, institutions, and research topics. While East Sea research has shown continuous quantitative growth, the qualitative indicators of the papers remain below the global average. The number of papers are concentrated in Japan, Russia, and South Korea, with a rapid increase in publications from China and South Korea in recent years. Among research institutions, the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) published the most papers, followed by the university of Tokyo and Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (FRA) in Japan, and the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST) in South Korea. Notably, the number of papers from Korean institutions has surged significantly since 2000. Research topics are centered around specific marine areas and geographic keywords, with the Ulleung Basin, Peter the Great Bay, Tsushima Warm Current, and the Northwest Pacific being the most frequently used keywords.
