Abstract
This study aims to analyze the theory of Universal Moral Grammar (UMG) systematically, examining its validity and limitations from the perspective of moral psychology as a theoretical framework for explaining the psychological mechanisms underlying moral judgment. To this end, the core assumptions and conceptual structure of UMG are reconstructed by drawing on its theoretical foundations in universal grammar, the moral faculty hypothesis, intuitive jurisprudence and linguistic analogy models. It also analyzes and evaluates key issues surrounding the theory from a moral psychological perspective. The findings suggest that UMG possesses significant explanatory power regarding the formal structure of moral judgment, contributing to a deeper understanding of the cognitive processes involved in intuitive moral evaluations. These theoretical insights could inform the moral education of children and adolescents, and form the basis for interdisciplinary research, such as modeling moral judgment in artificial intelligence.
