ChatGPT 기반 교재 분석을 통한 중학교 1학년 영어 교과서의 핵심역량 실현 양상 비교 연구

Abstract

This study investigates how core competencies—communication, creativity, and collaboration—are realized in Korean middle school English textbooks through AI-assisted analysis using ChatGPT. While previous textbook studies have largely relied on qualitative coding and researcher interpretation, this study addresses the methodological limitation by applying large-scale semantic network analysis. The data consist of two representative units selected from first-grade middle school English textbooks (2023–2025 editions) published by YBM, Chunjae, and Visang. ChatGPT was employed to conduct semantic similarity-based classification of unit objectives, tasks, dialogues, and project activities according to the behavioral indicators of the 2022 Revised English Curriculum. Human verification was applied at the final coding stage, and Voyant Tools and AntConc were used for cross-validation. The results indicate that all three textbooks predominantly emphasize communication, while creativity is most salient in project-based tasks and collaboration in group-based activities and role plays. Publisher-level differences were also observed, with Visang showing the highest proportion of creativity-oriented tasks and Chunjae emphasizing collaboration more strongly. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of AI-assisted textbook analysis in reducing subjectivity and enhancing reproducibility. Despite the limited unit sample, this study provides a methodological foundation for future large-scale AI-based EFL materials research.
