Abstract

This article examines the compiler of Gukjo Inmulgo(國朝人物考) and the existing editions. It has been speculated that 李宜顯 compiled this text based on the records of 群書標記 but by means of analyzing the content in the 承政院日記 articles and comparing the Gugjungak edition of Gukjo Inmulgo(國朝人物考) and Inmulgo(人物考), it was possible to confirm that 李宜顯 was indeed the compiler. The Gugjungak edition of Gukjo Inmulgo(國朝人物考) has the largest remaining volume of text and has been widely used in various studies. However, it contains many content errors and has presented an inaccurate arrangement of sections since the time of its compilation. As a copied version, this text can be regarded as incomplete. There are some remaining fragments in the editions available at Yonsei University and Pusan National University. Firstly, the Yonsei University edition is a contemporary copy of the Gugjungak edition, and it also contains the same incorrectly arranged sections as the Gugjungak edition. The level of copying is similar, but some errors have been corrected. Both the Gugjungak edition and the Yonsei University edition are considered to be versions with a relatively low level of production based on the state of copying. The Pusan National University edition has a very high level of accuracy compared to the Gugjungak and Yonsei University editions. Although the time and the author of the copying process for the Pusan National University edition are unknown, there are indicators related to the abstract work of Inmulgo (人物考) in the table of contents, and throughout the book, there are seals of 摛文院, which indicates that it may be a version compiled by 李宜顯, which was given by 正祖 from his private collection. It may also be a version copied as part of the abstract work of 抄啓文臣 in early 1798.
