EFL 학습자들의 영어 듣기 능력 향상을 위한 효과적인 방법 연구

본 연구의 목적은 외국어 학습에서 듣기의 중요성 인식하고, EFL 환경에서 보다 효과적인 영어 듣기 능력 향상 방법을 모색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 외국어 교육 및 학습에서 듣기의 중추적인 기능을 강조하고, 듣기가 어떠한 과정으로 이루어지는지를 고찰하였다. 또한, 문헌연구를 통해 EFL 학습자들로 하여금 듣기 이해에 어려움을 겪게 하는 저해 요인을 분석하고, 다양한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 효과적인 영어 듣기 능력 향상 방안을 제시하였다. 연구 분석 결과에 따르면, EFL 학습자들이 직면한 듣기에 대한 저해 요소로는 어휘력 부족, 음운현상에 대한 지식 부족, 적절한 교재 활용 부족, 듣기전략 부족 등이 도출되었다. 이를 바탕으로 EFL 학습자들의 실질적인 듣기 능력 향상을 위한 네 가지 제언이 이루어졌다. 첫째, 영어 듣기를 잘하기 위해서는 충분한 어휘력을 길러야 한다. 둘째, 영어 듣기와 밀접한 관계가 있는 음운현상에 대한 기본 지식을 습득해야 한다. 셋째, 교재 선정을 신중을 기해야 하며, 영화나 뉴스 등 실제적인 듣기 자료를 활용하는 것이 바람직하다. 끝으로, 보다 실질적인 듣기 능력 향상을 위해 듣기전략을 개발하고 전략 훈련에 적극적으로 임해야 한다. 연구 내용과 관련된 논의와 후속 연구에 대한 제언도 이루어졌다.
Abstract
Recognizing the importance of listening comprehension in EFL contexts, this study aimed to explore effective methods for enhancing EFL learners’ listening proficiency. To this end, this study emphasizes the pivotal role of listening comprehension in EFL learning and examines the process as it occurs in real-world settings. Additionally, the study reviews relevant literature to identify several factors influencing listening comprehension in EFL learning and presents practical suggestions for improving EFL learners’ listening proficiency. The study identifies four key factors affecting listening comprehension: 1) lack of vocabulary knowledge, 2) lack of phonological awareness, 3) insufficient use of authentic listening materials, and 4) lack of using listening strategies. To address these issues, the study offers several practical suggestions: First, learners should enhance their English vocabulary. Second, they should become familiar with various English phonological phenomena. Third, they should make extensive use of authentic listening materials. Lastly, they should practice and internalize effective listening strategies. The study also discusses related issues and offers suggestions for future research.
