Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of creative activities related to climate change education with visual thinking on the perception, knowledge, attitude about climate change and environmental literacy of higher grade students in elementary school. The subjects of the study consisted of 26 students in one class of G elementary school in B metropolitan area, and 23 other students in a comparison group. The experimental group conducted climate change education classes using visual thinking, and the comparison group had general explanatory climate change. In order to carry out this study, a pre- and post-questionnaire on climate change perception, knowledge, attitude and environmental literacy was conducted and the results were analyzed. The results of this study are as follows. First, creative activities related to climate change education using visual thinking had a positive effect on higher grade students in elementary school’perception, knowledge, and attitude about climate change. The experimental group to which the program was applied showed a significant improvement in perception and knowledge about climate change compared to the comparison group. Second, creative activities related to climate change education with visual thinking had a positive effect on the environmental literacy of higher grade students in elementary school. The experimental group to which the program was applied showed a significant improvement in the cognitive and affective areas of environmental literacy compared to the comparison group. The study results above indicated that creative activities related to climate change education with visual thinking had positive effects on the perception, knowledge, attitude about climate change and environmental literacy of higher grade students in elementary school, and are effective learning programs to respond to and adapt to climate change.
