Abstract

A Comparative Study on the Policy to Overseas Chinese in Mainland and Taiwan : Focused on the National Education and Economic Cooperation Jeon, Hyung-kwon·Cui, Rong This study examines the policy to overseas Chinese in Mainland and Taiwan by comparative perspective focusing on the national education and economic cooperation. In this article, we seek to draw critical devices to link two countries by utilizing overseas Chinese so that effectively offsets the national gap showing heterogeneous difference between mainland China and Taiwan.Using, mainly, literature analysis including related official web-sites of China and Taiwan, this paper compares the China's educational and economic polices to Overseas Chinese with the Taiwan's on both point of online and offline. We can summarize the differences as followings.Firstly, in terms of offline aspect, Taiwan began to concern about overseas Chinese and established organizations taking exclusive charges to Chinese residents affair so that enhanced lasting ethnic network with Chinese diasporas in economic and cultural aspects since establishment of the government, while the mainland began to access them only just after the beginning of open door policy. Secondly, on the online bases, Taiwan could apply internet system and carry out successfully the policies supporting their diasporas, while China's such efforts barely be found. In particular, the Twain's online programs aiming to support national education for overseas Chinese is successful case. It is possible that the two China will overcome the national difference and gap, when they pay more attention to the diaspora and try to utilize the ethnic network.
