Abstract
Strategic ambiguity is the fundamental policy of the US toward Taiwan Strait. The US takes very ambiguous positions on it’s commitment to Taiwan’s security and Taiwan’s future status. The purpose of the strategic ambiguity policy is to keep peace and maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait. However, after the 1995-1996 crisis, many people thought it has shown the failure of strategic ambiguity, and the policy of the US became more closer to strategic clarity. But there are still ambiguity remaining in the US Taiwan policy, so we still could not foresee the future of Taiwan Strait clearly.
