미얀마 어 외래어 표기법의 제정을 위한 기초 연구

본고는 미얀마의 공용어인 미얀마 어에 대한 외래어 표기법의 기틀을 마련하는 데 목적이 있다. 미얀마 어는 아직 국내에서는 친숙하지 않은 언어이며 문자와 발음의 대응이 비교적 규칙적이므로 각 문자를 한글과 대응시켜 표기하는 방식이 적절하다. 또한 모음 약화는 표기에 반영하지 않되, 유성음화, 무성음화, 비음화 등은 반영해야 기존의 외래어 표기법과의 일관성을 유지할 수 있다. 표기 일람표에서 미얀마 어 문자를 한글과 대응시킬 때 미얀마 어의 파열음 체계는 한국어의 평음-경음-격음 체계와 곧바로 대응시킬 수 있지만, 마찰음 체계는 한국어 마찰음과 음성적 성질이 다르므로 곧바로 대응시킬 수 없다. 미얀마 어 운모의 말음 중 성문 파열음 /ʔ/는 한글 ‘ㄱ’에, 비모음(鼻母音) /ã/, /ĩ/, /ũ/(/ʊ̃/)은 한글 ‘앙, 잉, 웅’에 대응시킬 수 있다. 그 외의 미얀마 어 문자 및 부호는 가장 유사한 음소를 표상하는 한글과 대응시킨다. 표기 일람표에 대한 세부적인 설명을 위해 표기 세칙을 둔다.
Abstract
This study aims at providing the base of the loanword orthography for Burmese, the official language of Myanmar. It is appropriate that the transcription of Burmese into Hangeul is to be attended on the basis of the correspondence between each Burmese letter and diacritic and Hangeul, because Burmese is not a familiar language in Korea and its correspondence between letters and pronunciations is relatively clear. Also, the consistency with existing loanword orthographies for other languages can be fulfilled when voicing, devoicing and nasalisation are reflected in the orthography while vowel weakening is not. Burmese plosives can be corresponded to Korean lax-tense-aspirated consonants, whereas Burmese fricatives cannot because their phonetic values are not the same to Korean fricatives’. As the final sound of Burmese rhymes, glottal plosive /ʔ/ can be corresponded to Hangeul ‘ㄱ’ and nasal vowels /ã/, /ĩ/, /ũ/(/ʊ̃/) to Hangeul ‘앙, 잉, 웅’ respectively. Other Burmese letters and diacritics are corresponded to the phonetically closest Hangeul letters. The detailed rules are required to explain the correspondence between two languages in detail.
