태평양 전쟁기(太平洋戦争期)의 전쟁시(戦争詩) –미요시 타쓰지(三好達治)의 전쟁시집을 중심으로–

Abstract

This paper considered the collection of war poems written by Tatsuji Miyoshi during the Pacific War. It tried to identify how the poet had recognized his era and what values he had had about poetry. The analysis of the content of the collection of poems revealed that it consisted mainly of radical expressions about imperialism of the West, especially the United States and the United Kingdom. This suggests that his knowledge of Western literature was useless. Above all, reducing his works to a means of national policy propaganda was nothing more than performing the war ideology of the time. The present paper also identified the inner working of the poet while he was writing the war poems. Owing to the military training he had received since childhood, the poet had the characteristics of a Japanese nationalist. These characteristics affected the production of war poetry. The poet tried to enhance national morality through the production of poetry, which he considered as his mission. However, the patriotism of the poet, as well as his recognition of the political situation during the war, was parochial and distorted. This assessment of the poet reveals the misfortunate of the poet during this period.
