陳映眞의 「忠孝公園」을 통해 본 타이완의 日帝 殘影

Abstract

In this article, background and implications of the relics of Japanese colonial rule as described in Taiwanese writer Chen Ying Zhen's novel 'Filial Piety Park(忠孝公園)' as well as native Taiwan peoples' political and cultural identity problem are reconsidered. To some extent, democratization led by Democratic Progressive Party have been relied on the sentiment of ideological confusion of native Taiwanese people as a 'Chinese'. Furthermore, the situation has brought about rehabilitation of nostalgia for Japanese colonial era in Taiwan. For such a contraditory situation in Taiwan politics and cultural atmosphere, mainland China's unilateral approach for Taiwan and related issues is, at least partially, responsible. In this context, Chen Ying Zhen's novels are successful in terms of highlighting the historical and sentimental dilemma and confusion for 'motherland', 'filial piety', enemy, and identity of themselves in the society of native Taiwanese people.
