Analysis on the Structural Changes of Recent Chinese Overseas Resources Development - Focusing on the Overseas Investment in the oil&gas sector by Chinese NOCs

This study aims to analyze the structural changes and features of Recent Chinese Overseas Resources Development in order to find ways to cooperate between Korea and China. The analysis results showed that aparent changes of investment structure such as investments in the North America with unconventional resources, corporate acquisition, mid-stream and down-stream etc are increasing. There are different structure changes by three NOCs. CNPC has been maintaining the investment shares in the mid and downstream sector by using strength in the up-stream sector. Sinopec showed it has been focused on the investment in the up-stream sector for recent years, while CNOOC mainly has focused on the up-stream sector which it has already comparative advantages. These structural changes are mainly caused by increase in the demand of oil and gas, development policy of unconventional resources and deterioration of foreign investment environment etc. Based on these results, this study imply a few ways to cooperate in the overseas resources development such as joint investment in the promising assets or corporate, excavation of cooperative possibility based on mutual complement and development of China's unconventional resources etc.
