본 연구는 산토 교덴(山東京伝)의 『傾城買四十八手』(1790)를 대상으로, 유곽이라는 제도적 공간에서 연애가 ‘위안’의 형식으로 구성되는 방식을 고찰한다. 기존의 샤레본(洒落本) 연구는 주로 유녀(遊女)를 중심으로 한 감정 표현과 장르의 변화를 분석해 왔으나, 본 연구는 독자이자 잠재적 방문자인 남성을 중심으로, 위안이 어떻게 상상되고 소비되었는지를 분석의 초점으로 삼는다. 본 연구는 작품 전체의 서사 구조와 주요 장면의 대화를 면밀히 분석하여, 관계의 단계별로 나타나는 감정 표현과 ‘위안’의 작동 방식을 고찰했다. 이를 통해 유곽 내에서의 연애가 진정한 감정 교환이라기보다, ‘놀이’로 연기된 상호작용 속에서 반복 가능한 위안의 구조를 형성하고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 진정성이 개입하는 순간 관계가 균열되는 경향이 드러났으며, 이는 당시의 유곽 문화가 허용하는 감정의 범위를 보여준다. 본 연구는 『傾城買四十八手』를 연애 지침서로서의 샤레본이라는 관점에서 재검토하고, 위안의 수혜자가 주로 남성이었다는 점을 밝힘으로써, 유곽문학의 수용 구조와 감정 표현의 성격을 재평가하는 데 기여하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study examines Santo Kyoden’s Keisei Kai-Shijuhatte(1790) to explore how romance in the Yoshiwara pleasure quarters functioned as a form of emotional consolation. While previous research has discussed sharebon style, context, and courtesan agency, little attention has been paid to how “love” was imagined and performed within structural constraints as a male-centered experience. Focusing on key dialogues and scenes, this paper shows how the work codifies the language and rituals of staged affection, offering romance as a regulated play that eased male loneliness. It also reveals Kyoden’s paradox: when such affection became genuine, it threatened the very system that enabled it. This reading positions sharebon not merely as satire but as a guide to managing emotion and desire in Edo urban culture.
