Abstract

Due to strong policy to curb population growth and modernization of Vietnamese government, the population growth rate has been significantly declining. At least as the economics growth rate has far outstripped the population growth rate since the 1990s, a population trap does not exist. On the other hand, the population growth has accelerated the economic growth. Population increase meant that a new government system was necessary in Vietnam which encouraged economic growth, it also indicated available human resources for the new system. Also, the Vietnamese society has entered the one where the numerical value of childbirth is declining and is urbanized by “pull type migration”. Population reorganization was possible since Doi Moi by changing economic structure and expanding production and employment through promoting labor-intensive industries such as manufacturing. As a consequence, the standard of living and the level of consciousness will be raised which will lead to modernizing the society such as nuclearization of the family associated with the voluntary birth control.
