초록

This study empirically analyzes the determinants of strike activities in 51 Korean-invested enterprises which have been manufacturing apparel and footwear, Vietnam. 2006-2010 yearly data used for this study were collected through questionnaire survey by mail, and the measurable variables of the strike activities classified by frequency. Independent variables used in this study are total 11 variables such as level of general unemployment, increase in real wage rate, number of production laborer, proportion of female laborer, proportion of migrant laborer and so on. The empirical results of the regression analysis are summarized as follow:First, general unemployment rate, number of production laborer, wage payment for strikers, regional characteristics, geographical condition (industrial complex), average years of service have relatively high significant effects on strike frequencies. But, increase in real wage rate, additional work hours per month, proportion of female laborer, proportion of migrant laborer, affiliation of union leader have no effect on strike frequency. Secondly, general unemployment rate, number of production laborer, wage payment for strikers, characteristic in region and average years of service have statistical significance in strike frequency. Thirdly, location in industrial complex has negative effect on strike frequency.
