김선달과 Trạng Quỳnh 이야기를 통해 본 전승집단의 의식

Abstract

Kim Sun-dal and Trang Quynh are respectively typical tricksters in Korea and Vietnam. Sun-dal is a name of a status given to people who have passed a primary national examination. Therefore, Kim Sun-dal is a name for those who have Kim as their last name and hold the position of Sun-dal. Even though the name itself has an extensive meaning, the one that appears in the Korean folktales is known as a clever merchant. In contrast, Trang is also a name of a status given to people who have passed a national exam, however remarks a special honor of the first place. Thus, Trang Quynh is a name for Quynh, the winner of the first place A Trickster in folktale commonly ridicules people, especially those who are in high class society such as king, executive organizers of the government and even God. Whereas the objects ridiculed by Kim Sun-dal are general people (e.g. rich people, Buddhist monk and Chinese silk merchants), Quynh mocks objects which are regarded as inviolable because of their high prestige throughout the society (e.g. King, Chinese emperor, Buddha and Motherly god). This thesis asserts that the main characters’ positions can determine the levels of the objects which are made fun of, furthermore demonstrates that they can be a factor which bounds transmitting groups’ range of idea.
