이 논문은 동물 실험을 둘러싼 논쟁에서 동물 실험 옹호론자들과 반대론자들이 자신들의 주장을 설득하기 위해 어떤 논증들을 사용하고 상대방을 비판하기 위해 어떤 논리적·수사적 방법을 구사하는지 검토하는 것이 일차적 목표이다. 동물 실험을 옹호하기 위해서는 어떤 전제들이 참인 것으로 제시되어야 하고 어떤 논증 방법들이 사용되고 있는지 분석한다. 그 과정에서 기초적인 논리학 수업 시간에 다루어지는 논증과 오류 들이 제시될 것이다. 그러고 나서 동물 실험을 옹호하는 논증은 전제들이 참이 아닌 건전하지 못한 논증이거나 전제들이 참이라고 하더라도 거기서 결론을 도출하기가 상당히 어려운 논증이라는 것을 보여 줄 것이다.
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze which arguments are used and which logical and rhetorical methods are employed in criticizing each other by proponents and opponents in animal experimentation debates. I look into the premises and argumentative strategies presented to support animal experimentation. Several argumentations and fallacies are pointed out in those processes. Finally I conclude that the arguments backing up animal experimentation are unsound which have false premises, and it is difficult to deduce the conclusion from those premises even though they are true.
