한나 아렌트는 자신의 철학적 사유를 정치적 행위를 통해 현실 속에서 실천한 점에서 마르틴 하이데거와 비교된다. 하이데거에 있어서 사유의 우선 과제는 모든 종류의 이론적인 인식과 실천적 행위가 수행될 수 있는 세계를 개현하는 것이다. 이 점에서 사유는 ‘최고의 행위’로 파악된다. 반면 아렌트에게 있어서 사유는 ‘순수 활동’이다. 그것은 ‘공론의 장’에서 정치적 행위를 통해서만이 완성될 수 있다. 두 철학자에게 사유와 행위의 연관성 문제는 자신들의 철학의 핵심영역에 위치하고 있다. 기존의 양자에 대한 비교연구는 대체로 아렌트의 입장에 서서 하이데거를 비판하는 데 집중된다. 여기서는 사유와 행위의 관계에 대하여 이론적·실천적 측면에서 하이데거와 아렌트가 견지하고 있는 입장들을 사태에 입각하여 영향사적 관점에서 비교 고찰해 보고자 한다. 먼저 비교연구를 위한 기초로서 아렌트의 하이데거 사유의 수용과 비판을 다루고자 한다. 이어서 사유와 연관된 ‘행위’에 대한 양자의 입장을 상론하고자 한다. 무엇보다 정치적 삶의 맥락에서 바라본 사유와 행위의 관계를 중심으로 양자의 철학을 비교 고찰하면서 그 의의를 밝혀보고자 한다.
Abstract
Arendt is compared to Heidegger in that he actualized philosophical thinking(Denken) through political action(Handeln). The relationship between thinking and action lies in the core of the two philosophers’ theories. This paper explores the common ground of the two philosophers on their shared concepts on thinking, which are often compared in the question of the relationship between thinking and action. Existing comparative study on the two philosophers generally focus on criticizing Heidegger from Arendt’s stance. Heidegger’s ‘ontological thinking’ is independent of the existing political philosophy. He emphasizes the responsibility of thinking over the social and political responsibility. This paper aims to compare Heidegger and Arendt’s philosophy focusing on the relationship between thinking and action as balanced as possible from the perspective of the history of effect. As a basis for the comparative study, this paper will first explore ‘Arendt’s acceptance and criticism,’ followed by examination on the two philosophers’ criticism on ‘not thinking’ and solutions for overcoming metaphysical thinking. The paper suggests possibility of how lack of discussions on thinking from Heidegger's theory can be supplemented through Arendt's theory; while Arendt's limits of optimistic metaphysical political theory can be extended through Heidegger's. The paper will then specifically compare and analyze their stances on ‘action', especially focusing on the relevance between thinking and action from the context of political life.
