본 논문은 서울 소재 A대학의 비정규직 주차관리 요원의 노동 현장에서의 참여 관찰을 통해 비정규직 노동자의 노동조합 가입과 노동조합 활동에 대한 두터운 기술(thick description)을 시도한다. A대학에서 저임금, 불안정 고용 상태를 감내해 오던 주차관리 요원들은 자발적 조직화를 통해 학내 비정규직 노동조합에 가입하여 활동해 오고 있다. 강도 높은 신체 노동과 감정 노동이 결합된 서비스 노동을 수행하는 주차관리 요원은 노동조합에 가입하는 전략을 통해 자신들의 노동 조건을 일정 부분 개선시키는 성과를 이루어 내었다. 주차관리 요원이 노동조합에 가입하는 행위는 한편으로는 노동 운동에서의 자발적 조직화의 가능성을 보여주는 것이었으나, 다른 한편으로는 비정규직 노동조합 내 소수 직종 조합원으로서의 어려움과 한계, 그리고 노·노 갈등을 경험하는 과정이었다.
Abstract
This paper attempts to understand the nonstandard workers’ processes of joining a union and their unionactivities through the participant observation of a workplace. The parking assistants, who were workingunder low-wage along with the insecure employment relations in university A, voluntarily joined the unionand have been participating in the activities of union. As service workers who are conducting physicallyand emotionally demanding labors, the parking assistants gained some improvements in their workingconditions by joining the labor union. Their actions of joining the union, on the one hand, demonstratedthe possibility of a voluntary unionization in the labor movements. On the other hand, the workers haveexperienced some difficulties and limitations as a minority group among the nonstandard workers’ unionat the university which included internal conflicts between the workers.
