Abstract
Earth system scientists explain today's global crisis through the fact that rather than dying, the Earth is waking up, "angry," "enraged," and "vengeful" counterattack. Looking at the unprecedented earth rupture phenomena such as climate heating, the destruction of species diversity, and the threat of extinction, which may cause mankind to disappear from the earth, human beings are forced to reflect on their identity and mission for the global life-community and act immediately. If we acknowledge the fact that the human species was born through the long evolution of the universe and the earth, and if humans are the cause of this crisis, then humans cannot but bear the moral and legal responsibility for life on Earth. In this thesis, I examine Hamilton's earth system science and neo-anthropocentrism, which emphasizes human responsibility while breaking away from anthropocentrism, on the premise that the earth is going through a crisis called the 'Anthropocene', and critically review its limitations. Next, I examine also Thomas Berry's model, which attempts to grasp the two forces of the earth and the human monistically in contrast to the dualistic model of Hamilton. Then, I attempt to establish 'a study of eco-spirituality' as a new study as a place of academic communication in which dialogues between religions and sciences, Eastern and Western religions will be actively welcomed. Here, I try to present the methodology of Translogue, in which human being goes beyond its language and gesture to other species to communicate in deep mind. And I set up principles of the study of eco-spirituality, which are practicing in the relation-centered, open, and reconstructing discourse.
