우리 시대에 ‘신심’은 거의 잊혀진 단어이다. 일부 대중신심에 대해서도 의심스러운 눈으로 바라본다. 사목자들은 현장에서 빗나가기 쉬운 신자들의 대중신심을 비난만 할 것이 아니라 올바르게 이끌어 줄 필요가 있다. 생티에리의 기욤은『아가 주석』에서 ‘신심 상태’에 대해 많은 언급을 하였다. 참된 신심은 첫째로, 교회와 일치하여야 한다. 둘째로, 우리가 복음을 묵상할 때 신심에로 나아갈 수 있다. 이 과정에서 우리의 이성은 뒤로 물러나고 신심어린 사랑은 하느님에 대한 이해에로 변화된다. 셋째로, 우리가 만일 ‘신심’에로 나아가면, 우리는 그리스도의 벗(amica)이 된다. 그리고 성경 ‘책의 말씀들’은 ‘하느님의 말씀’으로 변화된다. 넷째로, 신심 상태는 우리의 현상태보다 무언가 ‘조금 나아간 상태’이다. 결론적으로, 대중신심은 보살펴져야하고 참된 신심 혹은 ‘신심상태’로 이끌어져야 한다. 우리는 헛된 신심이 아니라 참된 신심을 가질 필요가 있다. 본 논문은 중세 영성 고전으로부터 잃어버린 신심의 감각을 다시 살릴 지혜와 통찰을 얻으려는 작은 시도이다.
Abstract
Piety is forgotten for our generation. Even some popular piety has been considered in a doubtful eyes. On the pastoral field, we should not blame only to the faithful’s popular piety. We need to take care and guide toward the truthful piety. William of St. Thierry uttered a lot about the ‘Status pietatis’ in his Exposition on the Song of songs. firstly, He described that the true piety must have the unity with the Church. secondly, As we meditated the gospel, we expediate into the Piety. In this process, our reason step back and pious love is transformed into the intellect about God. thirdly, If we advanced into Piety, we become Christ’s amica and the words of bible are changed to the Word of God. fourthly, state of piety can be described as a little more than we are. Conclusionally, Popular piety should be cared and guided to the truthful piety or Status pietatis. We need not to have false piety but to be truly pious. From the Spiritual classic of middle age, we tried to draw out some wisdom and insight to revive the forgotten sense of piety.
