오늘날 세계화 이데올로기와 탈 민족주의 담론은 국가의 주권이 시장으로 넘어갔고 시장 주권으로 인해 민족주의도 소멸될 것이라고 주장한다. 그러나 민족국가의 종말에 대한 예견은 빗나갔고 민족주의는 더 강화되었으며 민족 문제는 국제적 이슈로 등장하고 있다. 이러한 상황을 염두에 두고 본 논문의 목적은 20세기 라틴아메리카 민족주의의 형성 과정과 전지구적인 경제 위기 이후 민족국가가 재구성되는 과정을 멕시코와 아르헨티나 사례를 중심으로 살펴보는 것이다. 소기의 목적을 달성하기 위해서 먼저 민족과 민족주의의 개념에 관한 논의들을 살펴보고, 이러한 논의들을 가라타니 고진이 제시하는 자본=민족=국가라는 자본주의적 사회구성체의 관점에서 새롭게 성찰했다. 이를 바탕으로 20세기 라틴아메리카 민중민족주의의 변환을 멕시코와 아르헨티나 사례를 통해 비교 검토했다. 마지막으로 라틴아메리카 사회운동은 자본과 국가에 대항하여 자본주의적 사회구성체를 구성하려는 시민혁명의 출발점이라는 점을 밝혔다.
Abstract
Among the various ideological claims of globalization and post-nationalistic discourses were that the state had been superseded by the market; that the market would render the nationalist cause obsolete. But now we can see more clearly nationalism’s revival, not its death. Contemporary social reality attests to the relevance of the national question. The main goal of this article remains on addressing how Latin American nationalism has been transformed in the 20th century and how Latin American nations are reclaimed after global economic crisis, focusing on a comparative analysis of Mexico and Argentina. To actualize this goal, I began by offering some conceptual arguments of modern nationalism discourses and proposed that these arguments must be reconsidered from a theoretical framework of present-day Capital-Nation-State System raised by Karatani Kojin. Furthermore, I dealt with two case studies for tracing transformations of popular nationalism in Latin America during the 20th century. Finally, I attempted to make clear that the role of social movements in relationship to both the state and the market has come under renewed examination, above all in the context of failure of neoliberal reform.
