페터 한트케의 『긴 이별을 위한 짧은 편지』는 소설의 전개를 위하여 여성인물들에 크게 의존한다. 본고에서는 정신분석가이자 도플갱어 역할을 하는 클레어를 페미니즘과 매체학적 관점에서 주목함으로써 남성 주인공 ‘나’가 지닌 자아의 폐쇄성에 비판적으로 접근한다. 따라서 본고에서는 성장과 발전이라는 일견 자명해 보이는 해석에 의문을 표하고 각종의 매체, 특히 영화매체가 여성의 타자화와 얽혀 작동하는 양상을 드러내고자 하였다. 소설에는 정신분석가-도플갱어라는 클레어의 모순된 지위를 합리화하기 위해 현실의 영화화나 전도된 성차 위계와 같은 장치들이 마련되어 있다. 그 장치들은 클레어의 정신분석가로서의 권위를 ‘나’가 원할 시에 무력하게 하며, 타자를 기호화하는 권력을 승인하는 방식으로 작동한다. ‘나’의 자아 확립은 정신분석가-도플갱어 클레어의 여성 신체를 경유하나 다시 자기 자신의 동일화에 귀착하고, 이는 여성화된 자연을 기호화하려는 욕망과도 연결되어 있다. 소설의 전개에 필수적이었던 인물 클레어는 소설의 전략들이 관통하는 결절점이면서 중층적인 타자화 전략을 노출한다.
Abstract
Peter Handke's Der kurze Brief zum langen Abschied relies heavily on female characters for the development of the novel. This paper focuses on Claire, who plays the role of a psychoanalyst and doppelganger, from a feminist and media point of view, and critically approaches the closed mindedness of the ego possessed by a male narrator. Therefore, in this paper, the seemingly obvious interpretation of growth and development is questioned and various media, especially film media, are intertwined and operated in relation to women's otherization. To rationalize Claire's contradictory status as a psychoanalyst-doppelganger, the novel has devices such as film adaptation of reality and an inverted gender hierarchy. The devices work in such a way that they disarm Claire's authority as a psychoanalyst when the "I" wishes, and grant the power to symbolize the Other. The self-establishment of ‘I’ goes through the female body of the psychoanalyst-doppelganger Claire, but again leads to the identification of herself, which is also connected with her desire to symbolize her feminized nature. Claire, a character essential to the development of the novel, is the nodal point through which the strategies of the novel penetrate and exposes the strategy of layered otherization.
